When we’re in the downtown Columbia area and want to play, one of our favorite places for some outside time is Historic Elmwood Roy Lynch Park.
This park is a special one. It is named in honor of Army veteran Roy Lynch, who was one of the founding members of the Elmwood Park Neighborhood Association. As the father of eight children, Lynch wanted to make sure his children, and the others in the neighborhood, had a safe place to play. So he became an advocate for having a neighborhood park established. So when the park was finally established in 1981, it was named after him.

What We Love About It
Roy Lynch Park is a beautiful place to spend a sunny day. My kids enjoy chasing the butterflies they see near the garden and playing on the woodsy-looking playground structures. The park is in a quiet neighborhood, but there are always other children there who are eager to play. The paved walkways are perfect to practice bike riding and in the summer kids can cool off in the splash pad.
Things to Be Aware Of
There are no bathrooms in the park, so be sure to go before you get there. Parking is on the street.
Elmwood Roy Lynch park is truly is a lovely little park. I highly recommend stopping by after a trip to EdVenture or Soda City Market.
