Our History:
The Lexington County Recreation Commission was created by an act of the Legislature in 1968 as a Special Purpose District. The Commission as an active, functioning body with employees began operations in January, 1970. The organization began with no facilities and no budget and has since developed the many facilities and various programs enjoyed by the citizens today.On July 1, 1980, Lexington County Council requested the Commission absorb into its operation an existing senior citizen program, then administered by Richland Lexington Council on Aging.On July 1, 1982, we unofficially became the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for all citizens through creative and meaningful life enriching experiences. This is done through the provisions of program services, facilities and education.
The Orangeburg County YMCA has a wide variety of programs for people of all ages and interests, featuring a waterpark (open in the summer), natatorium, therapeutic pool, large fitness center, gymnasium, Child Watch, and many great programs!
The goal of Yoga Mama is to support and connect the community of expectant and new moms in Columbia SC through yoga. Yoga Mama specializes in working with pregnant women to help them prepare their bodies for labor using breath work and movement with prenatal yoga and guides new moms back into their bodies with postnatal yoga. Yoga Mama offers classes all over Columbia including Postnatal Yoga at the Rooted Community in Rosewood, Mom and Baby Yoga at Amsa Yoga studio, and private prenatal and postnatal yoga classes. The Katie & Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center, Founded in 1955,
is located at 306 Flora Drive, Columbia, SC 29223.
The mission of the Katie & Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center is to enhance quality of life by providing comprehensive programs based on Jewish values, traditions, heritage and culture. The Center aims to promote unity through these social, recreational, athletic, educational and cultural programs. We also strive to meet individual and communal needs in a way that promotes Jewish values and in turn nurtures, strengthens, enriches and unites the Jewish community and our community as a whole.
