Beginning in 1970, Earth Day was established to bring the idea of environmental advocacy to people’s attention around the world. Celebrated each year on April 22, Earth day is a great day to learn more about the world and our environmental impact we can have on it.
South Carolina’s DHEC has some great resources on things to do locally to make every day Earth Day. There are also some easy things you can do right now at home to celebrate Earth Day:
- Take a walk in your neighborhood or find a new trail.
- Sign a petition online.
- Donate to an environmental cause.
- Write to your congressman about protecting the Earth.
- Work in the yard then play hard. Or maybe make a birdhouse or bird feeder.
- Online printables can help teach your kids about the environment and how we can protect it.
- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle in your home.
- Watch a documentary or movie about the Earth.
- Read a book about the Earth, like Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax.
- Start a garden
