Guide to Vacation Bible Schools (VBS) Around Columbia

It’s getting close to that time of the year again. Vacation Bible School (VBS)! For many families, VBS is a summer staple. And because they are so much fun and loaded with tons of learning and activities, it’s not uncommon for kids to attend more than one session at different churches. It’s a great way to make new friends and get involved in the community. All the Vacation Bible Schools listed below are FREE or a small cost to attend.


June 1 (Saturday)

Cherokee Baptist Church

(Gilbert) Ages rising 4K through rising 6th grade, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. he day will be filled with crafts, singing, games, and of course, The Word, as we explore our theme, God is S’more Than Enough as we dive deeper into who God is. Lunch and a snack will be provided. The event is free but please sign up to attend.


June 2-5 (Sunday-Wednesday)

Ebenezer Lutheran Church

(Downtown) Ages Pre-K through 6th grade, 6–8 p.m. A light meal each evening at 5:30 p.m. and classes at 6 p.m. Our theme is “Operation Restoration: Mending God’s World.” There’s an adult class too!


June 2-6 (Sunday-Thursday)

Lugoff First Baptist Church

(Lugoff) K3 through 5th grade, 6–8:30 p.m. Get ready for a week of adventure at Breaker Rock Beach! We will discover God’s Rock-Solid Truth in a world of shifting sands! We will have fun each night with praise and music, crafts, dinner, recreation time, and Bible Study! We welcome children who have turned three by August 1, 2023 to 5th Grade! We have Youth Opportunities and an Adult VBS! NEW in ’24: Special Friends VBS! This exciting new class will be for middle schoolers to young adults who have special needs.


June 2-7 (Sunday-Friday)

Cedar Creek Baptist Church

(Blythewood) 5K through 5th grade, June 2: 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m., June 3-6: 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m., June 7: 6 p.m.-7p.m. At Breaker Rock Beach, kids will learn to recognize the difference between what the world says is true and what God says is true. They’ll encounter five everyday sayings that sound right, but dangerously miss the truth found in God’s Word. Each day kids will be challenged to know that God’s truth never changes- even when it’s radically different from what some people say. They’ll discover that God does not want them to be conformed to this age, but to be transformed by the renewing of their minds so that they can discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Each night will include a Bible lesson, crafts, activities, food, and more! A light dinner will be served at 5:15 Monday – Thursday.


June 3-5 (Monday-Wednesday)

Red Bank United Methodist

(Lexington) Ages 3 years old through rising 5th graders (All children must be fully potty trained), 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Join us for a trek in the Outback to discover God’s love! Each night we will learn about God’s love through Bible lessons, music, games, and crafts. Children must be potty trained.  


June 3-6 (Monday-Thursday)

Malvern Hill Baptist Church

(Camden) Ages 2 years old through completion of 6th grade, 6–8:30 p.m. Kids will be challenged as they discover that God’s truth never changes, everyone needs Jesus, and learn to speak the truth in love. Adventure awaits each day as kids explore tide pools, spot orcas, fly kites, and watch the mighty waves crash up against the immovable Breaker Rock!

GraceChurch of Columbia

(Downtown Columbia) Ages 4 years old through 5th grade, 6–8 p.m. Join us as we explore God’s love for us and how He always keeps His promises! Enjoy Bible stories, crafts, snacks, music, and games.


June 3-7 (Monday-Friday)

Round Hill Baptist Church

(Lexington) Ages 3 years old through 5th grade, 6 p.m.–8:30 p.m. Kids will be challenged as they discover that God’s truth never changes, everyone needs Jesus, and learn to speak the truth in love. Adventure awaits each day as kids explore tide pools, spot orcas, fly kites, and watch the mighty waves crash up against the immovable Breaker Rock!

GraceChurch of Columbia

(Downtown Columbia) Ages 4 years old through 5th grade, 6 p.m.–8 p.m. Join us as we explore God’s love for us and how He always keeps His promises! Enjoy Bible stories, crafts, snacks, music, and games.


June 9-12 (Sunday-Wednesday)

Holland Avenue Baptist Church

(Cayce) Ages 3 years old through 8th grade, 6–8 p.m. Dive into friendship with God!  


June 10-13 (Monday-Thursday)

Mt. Horeb UMC

(Lexington) Ages 4 years old through completion of 5th grade, Three sessions offered: 9 a.m.–12 p.m., 1:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m., 6 p.m.–8:30 p.m. Scuba VBS – where kids (and adults) can dive into friendship with God! It’s a week full of Bible stories, crafts, songs and snacks!

Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church

(Lexington) Ages preschool through 6th grade, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Adventure awaits each day as kids explore the tide pools, spot orcas, fly kites and watch the mighty waves crash up against the immovable Breaker Rock! God’s truth never changes!


June 10-14 (Monday-Friday)

First Presbyterian Church of Columbia

(Downtown Columbia) Ages 4 old through 5th grade, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Stellar VBS is right around the corner and we are blasting off on a space expedition! Our young explorers will discover God’s Word in new ways and discover what it means to shine Jesus’ Light.  


June 17-19 (Monday-Wednesday)

Seacoast Church

(Irmo) Ages children 4 years old through 5th grade, 6: p.m.–8 p.m. We are celebrating the good news of Jesus! Jesus didn’t just come to show his love for some of us…He came to make sure everyone knows they are loved! At Kids Camp, your child will enjoy fun games, amazing worship, and incredible truths from the Bible. The best part about Kids Camp is…everyone is invited!


June 17-20 (Monday-Thursday)

Union United Methodist Church

(Irmo) Ages children through 5th grade, 6:15 p.m.–8 p.m. Join us for Vacation Bible School as we head to “Camp Firelight: A summer camp adventure with God.”

Spring Valley Baptist Church

(Northeast) Ages entering kindergarten through completed 7th grade, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Get your sunscreen and sunglasses ready because Breaker Rock Beach Vacation Bible School is calling your name! Get ready to groove to the rhythm of the waves and the beat of uplifting music as we embark on a week-long beach bash like no other. Join us for epic Bible story sessions, creative crafts that will unleash your inner artist, and heart-pounding games that will keep you on your toes. Northside Baptist Church

(West Columbia and Lexington) Ages rising K5 through rising 5th grade, 6:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m. Mark your calendars for Summer Fest 2023! Register today to get your child’s spot locked in for all the fun and games all while learning about God and his love for us! Our primary goal is to connect kids into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We know that through this relationship, we can lead them to a better future.


June 23-26 (Sunday-Wednesday)

Edmund First Baptist Church

(Lexington) Ages 5K through 5th grade, 6 p.m.–8 p.m. Jungle Journey. Dinner and snacks will be provided!

Trenholm Road United Methodist Church

(Downtown Columbia) 3K through 5th grade, 5:30 p.m.-7:45 p.m. Come join TRUMC’s Children’s Ministry for four days of fun as we celebrate the good news! This year, our theme is “Start the Party: Celebrate the Good News!”. Every evening, we’ll kick things off with music and dance, followed by a delicious dinner. Our aim is for the children to learn and truly believe that Jesus is worth celebrating. Throughout the event, we will explore various Bible stories, such as the Parable of the Wedding Feast and the Parable of the Lost Son. Each night, there will be a rotation of four sessions, including Large Group time, Small Group time, Games, and Crafts. And don’t worry, we’ve got you covered – dinner will be provided each day along with the four sessions. Children aged 4 (by September 1st, 2024) through 5th grade are welcome to join us. So, come on over and let’s have a blast celebrating the good news together!


June 23-27 (Sunday-Thursday)

Oakwood Baptist Church

(Lexington) Ages 4 years old to 5th grade, 6 p.m.–9 p.m. Join us in a world of wonder that will delight our senses while captivating our hearts and minds at The Great Jungle Journey: An Epic Cruise from Genesis to Revelation. We will cruise through jungle rivers, making stops at seven ports of call along the way – each starting with a C. These represent seven key biblical events – the 7 C’s of History.

Mt Hermon Lutheran Church

(West Columbia) Ages preschool through youth aged kids. An adult class and nursery is available if needed, 5:30 p.m.–8 p.m. People who follow Jesus have a lot to celebrate! Jesus gives us some amazing reasons to party…friendship, belonging, forgiveness, life, purpose. YOU can be a party starter! Come, start the party with us! Each night begins with a complimentary meal at 5:30 p.m. VBS activities start at 6 p.m


June 24-27 (Monday-Thursday)

Gateway Baptist Church

(Irmo) Ages 3 years old through completed 5th grade, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Mega Camp is our take on summer VBS – we have worship, small groups, crafts, games, and a WHOLE lot of fun! 

Shandon Baptist Church

(Columbia) Ages completed 5 year old kindergarten through completed 5th grade, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. 


June 24-28 (Monday-Friday)

Northeast Presbyterian Church

(Northeast) Ages 3 and potty trained 3 through rising 3rd graders, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and rising 4th grade through 6th grade, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. LISTEN! Can you hear a howler monkey screeching and insects buzzing? LOOK! Do you see a sloth hanging from a tree? SMELL! Is that the aroma of tropical flowers blowing through the trees? TOUCH! Do you feel the soft grass under your feet and gentle rain on your skin? TASTE! Is that the delicious milk from a coconut? Join us on The Great Jungle Journey; an EPIC cruise from Genesis to Revelation as we stop at the 7 ports of call, the 7 Cs of history!

Grace Baptist Church

(West Columbia) Ages K4 through 6th grade, 8:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. Every day, our kids are bombarded with questions: Did God really create everything? Why do bad things happen? Was Noah’s ark real? Why do I need to be saved? Can I trust the Bible? At this VBS, your kids will explore the biblical answers to these questions as they set off on an epic adventure from Genesis to Revelation. Amid sloths, butterflies, river dolphins, and dart frogs, your children will sail along on a fun jungle cruise, stopping at seven ports of call. These ports are the 7 C’s of History: Creation, Corruption, Catastrophe, Confusion, Christ, Cross, and Consummation. Kids will discover how these events shape our world, and they will learn to reconnect the Bible to their everyday life. Prepare to swing into fun as we head out on The Great Jungle Journey!


July 8-12 (Monday-Friday)

St. Joseph Catholic Church

(Downtown Columbia): Ages K5 through 5th grade, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Take kids deep into an amazing undersea adventure where they’ll experience the ever-flowing, never-ending love of God. At Scuba VBS, kids will be immersed in the Word and discover what living water is really all about!


July 12-13 (Friday-Saturday)

Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church

(Downtown Columbia): July 12: 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m., July 13: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. We will spend two days on an adventure to explore how we can put our trust in God no matter what challenge we face.


July 14-18 (Sunday-Thursday)

Trinity United Methodist Church

(Blythewood) Ages 4 years old through rising 6th grade, 6–8:30 p.m. We’ll be munching on trail mix and singing songs around the campfire as we adventure with God at “Camp Firelight!”


July 15-19 (Monday-Friday)

Harvest Church

(Lexington) Ages completed 5K through 5th graders, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. VBS is a weeklong experience for kids like no other! In five fun-packed days, students who’ve completed 5K through 5th grade will encounter a powerful experience of love and grace through fantastic storytelling, adrenaline-fueled games, creatively inspired crafts, high-energy songs, and an amazing opportunity to impact people around the globe!


July 22-26 (Monday-Friday)

12 Springs Community Church

(Lexington) Ages rising 5K through 6th graders, 6 a.m.–8:30 p.m. Breaker Beach! Dive into fun and fellowship as we dive in and learn that GOD’S TRUTH NEVER CHANGES!


July 29-31 (Monday-Wednesday) 

Grace Presbyterian Church

(Elgin) Ages just completed K4 through 5th grade, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Details TBA.

    Join us for worship, music, drama skits, games, Bible study, and missions. Snacks will be provided nightly.
