Columbia Parks & Playgrounds :: Virginia Hylton Park

0

Virginia Hylton Park, located in downtown Lexington, is my favorite outdoor place to play in Lexington. We enjoy playing there so much that I had my daughter’s pictures taken there for her second birthday. When the park closed for renovations a few years ago, we were sad we wouldn’t be able to play there, but excited about all of the improvements being made. The park reopened a few weeks ago and we just had our first visit.

What We Love About It

The playground is huge and has something for everyone! The main part of the playground has two connected treehouses over a rubberized foundation. The playground also boasts an enormous xylophone and seats that spin. And what kid doesn’t love to sit and spin?

The second playground sits on the side of a hill. It’s perfect for kids who like to climb, go down slides, and roll down hills.

Virginia Hylton Park also has a variety of different types of swings; perfect for kids and adults alike! Swings for children of all ages are on the main playground while the porch-style swings for everyone else are scattered throughout the walkways.

The park is full of picnic shelters so make sure you pack a lunch for your playdate! In addition, new walkways have been installed around the park so it’s a great place to get a few laps in.

The beautiful and serene ponds and water features would be great places to sit and enjoy a book. They are so peaceful and calming!

But, with all of that, our favorite new feature at Virginia Hylton Park is the splash pad! My daughter loved splashing and playing in the water. Great for those famously hot days in Cola! There is so much to do at Virginia Hylton Park. If you haven’t been yet, be sure to check it out soon! And be sure to check the park’s Facebook page for upcoming events. Especially since the park now boasts a beautiful new amphitheater!
