Gluten-Free Easter Treats

Ah…Easter is approaching, and as with every holiday, it’s an excuse to indulge my sweet tooth a bit. Unfortunately, with gluten issues, I can’t just grab every slice of bunny cake that comes my way. *weep* *weep*

With Easter baskets, egg hunts, and parties, the problem becomes even more difficult for mothers seeking gluten-free Easter treats for their celiac children at this time of year. Here are my favorite gluten-free treats for parents and kids.

Peeps

It seems like everyone either loves or hates these little marshmallow creatures. (For the record, I’m totally pro-Peep!) If you’re a Peep-loving, gluten-sensitive person, then you’re in luck, because these little guys are gluten-free.

Easter Candy Corn

That’s right! Candy corn isn’t just for Halloween. There are wide assortments of pastel-colored varieties.

Homemade Rice Crispy Treats

So long as you use a gluten-free brand of rice crispy cereal, rice crispy treats are totally gluten-free! Make them extra-delicious by mixing some pastel-colored chocolate candy into the batch. (But make sure it’s fair trade chocolate! SunSpire makes a great version of M&M’s.)

Jello Jigglers!

These make great treats, and my kids have a blast making them. We like to use egg or bunny molds, and they usually become part of the table decorations before they are devoured.

And for Adults Only—Vodka-Infused Peeps

These are an awesome way to chillax after your little munchkins are finished with their Lord-of-the-Flies-style Easter Egg hunt.

Ingredients:

  • 10 peeps of your choice
  • 1 (750 milliliters) bottle vodka

Instructions:

  1. Put marshmallow chicks in a glass jar or bottle and top with vodka. Cover jar. Allow marshmallows to sit until colored coating is dissolved into the vodka and marshmallows are mostly dissolved, 2 to 3 days.
  2. Strain marshmallow pieces out of vodka. Pour vodka back into the bottle or another airtight container.
