How I Started My Own Kitchen Garden

I can’t believe how fast they grow! For once, I am not talking about children. This time, I am talking about gardens.

I’ve always loved the idea of growing my own herbs, fruits and vegetables. There’s nothing like that fresh taste directly from the garden. But as a busy mom of two small children, there was a part of me that was overwhelmed by the idea of taking care of anything else. I also didn’t want to take the time to figure out what I needed to get started. This is where Kendra Fogg came in and helped me transform my dream of a kitchen garden into a reality.

Kendra is a mom of two small children living in the local area. With her innate green thumb coupled with her specialized training, she provides gardening consultations to help other people, like me, get started with their raised bed gardens.

First, she sets up a meeting to review what specifically her clients would like to grow. She takes inventory of the yard space in addition to her clients’ gardening wishes. She walks her clients through all her suggestions in addition to providing a printed visual of their future garden and a planting plan that shows where to plant each plant.

Next, she chooses quality cedar raised beds for her clients’ space, the right organic soil and plants, and installs them all for her clients. She even offers coaching and ongoing maintenance for those who want to participate in the planting, learn about the new plants and how to care for them, or just have their new garden maintained and cared for by Kendra. With Kendra’s help, I started a garden without ever stepping foot inside a gardening store!

I now have a raised bed garden that my four-year-old son and I care for together. It is a great activity that teaches him patience, dedication, and commitment. He also gets to reap the rewards of picking what we’ve grown and eating it for dinner. I’ve never seen him eat a salad until now! He is so proud of himself. If gardening is something that interests you and at the same time feels like another daunting task, consider getting a gardening consultation! Kendra will help ensure gardening is a fun new hobby the whole family can enjoy rather than just another item for your “to-do” list.

As one of her client’s, Michelle, said, “It’s so satisfying how fast it’s growing and I couldn’t have done it without Kendra!” They are pictured here tending to Michelle’s garden.

Also pictured, Kendra teaching my son about basil. He loves smelling all the fresh herbs!
