Columbia Parks & Playgrounds :: Gibson Pond Park

0

Sometimes when the weather is nice, my family likes to have a little picnic. One of our favorite picnic spots is Gibson Pond Park in Lexington.

Gibson Pond Park suffered an immense amount of damage after the flood of 2015. The Town of Lexington was forced to close the park for repairs until 2021. It’s now open and has so much to offer!

Address: 241 Gibson Road, Lexington, SC 29072

Gibson Pond Park is a short distance away from Downtown Lexington. If you don’t feel like packing your own picnic, O’Hara’s Bakery Cafe, Groucho’s Deli, and Cribb’s Sandwiches are just a 5-minute drive away.

Cost: Free and open to the public

Features:

  • Covered and open picnic areas
  • Large covered shelter with 10 tables, large grill, and sink
  • 1/2 paved walking loop
  • Pond for fishing, kayaking, or duck-watching
  • Paved parking and gravel lot
  • Lots of swings
  • Restrooms

What We Love About It

When you’re driving on Gibson Road, you can’t help but notice the beautiful bridge at the front of the park.

The pond beneath the bridge is lovely. I have seen several people taking family pictures in front of it during my visits.

There are many good-sized picnic shelters at the park. You can drive right up to most of them.

When you get finished with your picnic, you can walk along the paved 1/2 trail loop in the park. The trail is shaded and easy to walk on. There are several benches for you to stop and enjoy the views. If you’re lucky, you might see some ducks swim by while you’re resting. If walking is not your thing, you can enjoy the views from one of the many swing sets or bench swings in the park.

Things to Be Aware Of:

  • Many people enjoy taking dogs to this park. Make sure your child knows to ask for permission before they go to pet a dog.
  • The swings are the only playground equipment at the park.

Gibson Pond Park is a beautiful place to spend a little time outdoors. I enjoy spending time with my children at this park, but I also like going by myself.

Have you been to Gibson Pond Park? What do you love about it?
