Recently my daughter and I were scrolling Instagram for crafts when we spotted one that was easy, cute, and actually useful – paper wallets. We decided to try making them ourselves and we had so much fun! At the end of the day we had new wallets for her, me, my husband, and my mother.
Here are the directions for you and your child to make your own paper wallet at home.
Materials You Will Need:
- Paper for your wallet pockets – we used construction paper.
- Paper for the outside of the wallet – we used two different pieces of cardstock with different prints
- A gluestick
- A string or band for the fastener – we used a band from a weaving kit we never finished.
Directions:
Fold a landscape-oriented piece of paper in thirds, with one flap slightly overlapping the other. Glue the overlapping flap to the other flap.

Put a line of glue on the top half of the paper. Fold the paper in half.

Repeat this step with different pieces of paper to make as many pockets as you would like.
Glue all of your pockets together.

Place your pockets on the piece of paper you are planning to use for the outside. Cut the outside paper so that it is slightly wider than your pockets.

Glue your pockets near the top of your wallet outside.
Fold the outside paper over so that it covers your pockets. Then fold the extra paper over the top to make a closure for the wallet.
Attach a fastener of your choice. You could glue on a pretty ribbon or find a band like we did.
Voila! A cute wallet perfect for taking snack money to school or playing store at home! This took us less than 10 minutes and my daughter was able to create one all by herself. Give it a try with your kids!
