Columbia, capital of our beloved state, is a city that is home to 755,000 people and boasts more than 170 foreign-affiliated companies. In addition, Columbia is home to many military families who have traveled all over the globe, as well as many international students who are in town for a few months to a few years for their education. Overall, Columbia is a very diverse city representing cultures from all over the world.
Because of all this, a new club is being founded in town. It’s called Midlands International.
The mission of Midlands International is to create an opportunity for Midlands residents to learn, explore and enjoy different languages, friendships and cultures from around the world. The club will sponsor a variety of family activities, a women’s group, a book club, and a language center (where you are able to learn another language from a native speaker at an affordable cost).
Midlands International will also celebrate the cultural events of those involved by providing opportunities to learn about different cultures and then celebrate them. For example, they will have Chinese members speak to the group about Chinese culture and tradition and then the group will have a Chinese New Year’s celebration. Cultures and traditions from around the world will be celebrated in so many ways! Midlands International is also a great place to meet and connect with others in our community who are from your own cultural background.
The first meeting of Midlands International will take place on Thursday, October 19th, at 6:30 pm at Richland Library Main.
