At Christmas, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what I wanted. But I needed to give my husband a hint. Jewelry? Wasn’t going to wear it. Clothes? So they can remind me how much weight I need to lose? Next. I hopped on Pinterest and I found a couple things to suggest. A body sorbet by Ahava, Younique Fiber Lashes mascara, and my favorite … a DIY mom survival kit, which is kept in a Mason jar in my car. If you don’t have one, you need one, and here’s why!
As moms we are always on the go, and I’m more concerned with grabbing diapers and wipes and making sure my son has his belt for karate than I am concerned with some other things that could come in handy. But my kit means I have a few little lifesavers handy at all times. Here’s what I have in my jar!
- Mascara: I don’t have time — or at least, I don’t make time — to put any kind of makeup on before I’m running out of the house. (And it is never a walk. It is always a run.) But if I take a few minutes later in the day to put on mascara, it makes a huge difference. It makes my eyes pop a little, and it makes me feel more woman-like and less mom-in-sweats-like.
- Wet Ones: From my dashboard to my kids’ sticky hands (one sucks her fingers, the other is a boy — enough said), these are a multi-use wonder!
- Eos strawberry sorbet lip balm (YUM!): My lips are always chapped. Like all.the.time. And like I said about the mascara, having SOMETHING on my lips, makes me feel a little more put together.
- Breath strips: Because whose breath doesn’t need a refresher every now and then?
- Disposable toothbrushes: For the those days when the sink and toothbrush are a lost concept between morning meltdowns, breakfast and trying to get out of the door. They’re definitely a good thing until you make it back to your toothbrush!
- Tylenol: The kids SCREAM in the car. My son constantly upsets his sister so she WAILS. And they THUMP on the floor. It just never ends until I have a bleeding headache. Tylenol, Aleve, Excedrin, whatever your vice is — you will not regret having it in your jar!
- Hand sanitizer: There’s always something going around, right now especially, and this is just my way of doing my part to keep my kids’ little gummy hands as clean as possible. Especially when we’re out places like the grocery store!
- Chocolate: Because it makes everything better. Everything. And because Haagen-Dazs will melt in the jar.
- Perfume/body spray: Because I really like to smell like a woman and again, I either forget or don’t have time to put on my favorite perfume (Clinique Happy for men. Yes, I like the men’s version WAY better). This does the trick!
And last but not least…. my favorite part of my jar is:
- A love note: Yes indeed. When my husband gave me this jar, he put a sweet little note in it reminding me how much he loves me. When I’m having a rough day and he’s busy at work, this makes me feel all warm inside.
Do you have a mom survival kit? What’s in it — or what would you put in it if you had one?
