The ABCs of Exploring Columbia With Kids

Are Looking for easy ways to explore Columbia? After a busy work and school week, its great to get out over the weekend and explore all that Columbia has to offer!

But who has time to sit and look up all the things on the internet? Well, we’ve done the hard work for you, and have compiled the ultimate guide on how to explore the city! Choose one letter to explore, or choose them all! You can’t go wrong either way. 

A is for Art. Visit the Columbia Museum of Art or take a tour through the city to see some of the coolest Public Art in displayed around the city. Don’t forget to grab your Art Explorer Backpack to lead you on your adventure!

B is for Brunch. Brunch is the new “dinner” for moms, couples and girlfriends. Explore some amazing places all over Columbia that offer an array of selections such as crafted mimosas flights and creative menus to please any appetite. 

C is for Congaree. Visit Congaree National Park today and ask about details on how your child can become a Junior Ranger.

D is for Dessert. Enjoy some of the city’s favorite spots, such as Kaminsky’s, with over 20 dessert choices, and Lita’s Treat for their famous red velvet cupcakes. You don’t want to miss out on these sweetest treats! 

E is for Eddie. Visit EdVenture Children’s Museum and explore the insides of a giant kid!

F is for fun. Enjoy a family night out at some of the coolest play parks and arcades around. Visit Frankie’s Fun Park , Stars and Strikes , Dave & Busters and PlayLive Nation to name a few. Bowl, play games or race the go cart runway speeding the night away. 

G is for Get Moving. Make fitness a family activity by biking at Saluda Shoals or skating at Skateland Fun Center.

H is for Habitats. Take a trip to Riverbanks Zoo and explore their new exhibits. Stop and see the new state of the art aquarium and reptile conservation center, plus the ultimate splash pad to keep you cool for South Carolina’s famously hot temperatures. 

I is for Ice Cream. For a new ice cream experience visit some of the coolest shops in the area such as Sweet Cream Company, Sweet Pea’s and LICK where you can try unique flavors like French Toast, Chocolate Heart Attack and even host your own ice cream party with Sweet Peas ice cream kit experience.

J is for Jumping. Take the kids to Surge where they can enjoy a fun trampoline park, bougie jumping, and it’s a perfect spot for your kids next birthday party.

K is for Kayak. Visit our local parks where older kids will enjoy kayaking or canoeing with the family.

L is for laughter. Enjoy a night on the town and visit Columbia’s Comedy House. Check out tours of popular comedians who are sure to get you laughing the night away. 

M is for Movies. The Summer Movie Express at Regal Cinemas is still a perfect escape from our hot summer days and at only $2 a ticket, it won’t break the bank!

N is for Neighborhood Parks. There are so many parks in our city to explore! Try a different one this week and see what it has to offer.

O is for Outdoors. Explore the yearly festivals in the city for your favorite outdoor adventure. There is something for everyone!

P is for Picnics. Stop by the beautiful Riverfront park to have a picnic. Watch the beautiful Congaree river, explore walking trails and even get fit in the outdoor work out area. 

Q is for Quick Trips. Take a quick ride to nearby cities for a day trip. Charlotte, Charleston, and Greenville are few great choices.

R is for Ride. How about horseback riding? Contact Long Creek Equestrian Center to schedule a trail ride with your group.

S is for shopping. Take a stroll exploring the amazing Soda City Market on Main Street. Talk about great food and unique vendors! It’s a weekend event you never want to miss.  

T is for Tubing. Palmetto Outdoors offers several tubing options and even includes shuttle service.

U is for Underwater. Visit one of the city’s pools, splash pads, spray pools, mist pads and water parks to enjoy a day of swimming.

V is for Visitor. Explore Columbia as if you are a visitor. Take a free tour of the State House, go on a historic house tour, or even try a food tour.

W is for Waterparks. Visit one of the coolest waterparks in the city. The Palmetto Falls Water Park is housed at our amazing Fort Jackson base. They have lounge chairs, tents and an outdoor playground. Check details for base entry before visiting. 

X is for eXplore. Explore Columbia’s unique shops and restaurants in it’s multiple neighborhoods. The Vista and Five Points are just a couple of Columbia’s fantastic neighborhoods. 

Y is for Yarn. Take a knitting, jewelry making or craft class together at Michael’s.

Z is for Zipline. Check out the Zipline and Sky High Safari at Riverbanks Zoo.
