Father’s Day has always been special to me. Especially growing up a “daddy’s girl.”
I’ve always been daddy’s little girl. Growing up, my daddy always gave me his time. He wasn’t the perfect father, but I knew I was loved. He loved all of his children. I remember him taking us on walks, playing outside in the yard with us, and even spending time with us at the park. He always made us laugh, and he still does.
I remember one time he cooked us a big pot of food outside. After he finished cooking, he fixed our plates and begin telling us a story. He started telling us about how six kids were eating deer meat. And he just kept repeating the same story, over and over, about six kids eating deer meat. When we finally caught on everyone just started looking at each other then we all took off running to our mama. We couldn’t believe he had just fed us Bambi. We should’ve known something was up when he kept smiling and laughing.
Sometimes my daddy didn’t have to work on Fridays. On those days, some of his friends from work would come over and they would play quarters. I would be right out there with them to play, and my daddy would give me every quarter he won.
It was fun growing up with my daddy. I was the one he spoiled. I was his baby girl. Even today, my children, as well as my nieces and nephews, love being around him.
Now, fast forward to today. I get to see my husband being a father. And he is such an amazing father! I enjoy seeing him with our children. He spends a lot of time with our son Jaylen because Jaylen thinks that he is daddy’s one and only. But my husband does have things he does with the girls as well. The girls love being up under me though.
My husband is always there for everything. And when I say everything, I mean everything. He doesn’t miss a beat. Doctor appointments, school events, sporting events; he’s there for it all! That’s why Father’s Day is such a big celebration in our home.
Fathers are just as important as mothers. Sometimes I think them being there means more to the children. I am so glad to be surrounded by so many amazing dads; not just my dad and my husband.
I would like to wish a Happy Father’s Day to my daddy, James “Wally” Sweat, and to my husband Terence Evans. I would also like to wish the rest of my family and friends a Happy Father’s Day.
When I asked my kids what they wanted to say about their dad, they stated, “Our dad is a person who really loves his family, especially our older brother they have a really great bond and I’m glad he came into our lives because he makes it a whole lot better with him in it we are so happy to call him our dad.”
Per Ayden Haywood, “I love my Dad. He’s a good person. And I love him.”
Regardless of your story, I think many of us can relate to the shared feelings of love and appreciation for the dads, granddads, and father figures in our lives. With this, we say, “Happy Father’s Day. Thank you. We love you. And we hope you feel appreciated today and every day!”
